The most expensive Scotch whisky ever auctioned. Special signed limited edition of 500 bottles

The Glenfiddich 50 Year Old is one of the most rare and magnificent single malt Scotch whiskies. Only 500 bottles have been produced, each signed by Alexander Grant Gordon, former Chairman, and great-grandson of the company's founder. This is the most expensive whisky ever sold at auction, achieving 99,999,999 lira (about £35,000) at a charity auction in Italy in the 1990s.

In the 1930s, William Grant & Sons Ltd laid down nine casks of Glenfiddich spirit for maturation, one for each of William Grant's nine children, who helped their father build The Glenfiddich Distillery. After lying undisturbed for over 50 years, the highly symbolic collection was finally bottled on 26th July 1991.

As a result of its 50-year maturation in 100% plain oak casks, this is the darkest Glenfiddich whisky, with an astonishing taste. It has a well-balanced nose, with a pleasantly sweet woody aroma. This progresses to a smooth, sweet fruity flavour with undercurrents of peat and oak. David Stewart, Glenfiddich Malt Master, recommends, "It is better drunk straight without the addition of water. The taste is shorter than younger whisky; like rare old cognacs."
